Do you have an order minimum?
Yes, usually. All custom cakes have a minimum of $150. Custom cakes require a minimum of 4 hours to make, not including cost of ingredients, so there is a minimum amount no matter the size of the request.
Holiday promotions or bake sales typically do not have a minimum.
Do you accept short-notice orders?
Sometimes! If I feel we are able to communicate clearly and effectively in the amount of notice given (and I have the availability), then I am happy to take on your order.
Why do you require so much notice sometimes?
I am a one-woman operation! That means that I am the only person carrying out everyone's orders from start to finish. So in order to maintain the quality that my clients rely on, I can only take on so many orders per week.
I have been making kakes in the area for over eleven years now, so I have a lot of repeat clients that have me reserve their date with a lot of notice since they know the drill! So by the time others start to party plan, I already have dates in my calendar- it never hurts to ask though!
Why do your cakes cost more than stores?
I love this question! There are so many reasons!
Something small but meaningful that sets me apart from other bakeries or chains is that I use a masonite board instead of a commonly used flimsy cardboard base. I do this so that the cake board has integrity when you hold it and cut on it. Masonite boards are over 40x more expensive than the traditional cake boards, but I think it's worth it and my clients notice the quality of materials used.
On a simpler note, it is because this cake was made specifically for you, for this day. My cakes are not mass produced using low quality ingredients with a blank part for you to write in a message. I conversed with you, figured out what you wanted, and then spent hours bringing your vision to life. I feel as though my time is valuable and each cake is art. I know you don't always need to "go all out" on your events, so I totally understand if I'm not for you!
Do you make buttercream and fondant cakes?
Yes! I do it all! Just send me your inspiration and I can do whatever you'd like while working within your budget. That is the beauty of custom cakes- it isn't one size fits all! We can keep tweaking until you're happy!
Do you offer delivery?
Yes, delivery is available for most of my items. I typically offer complementary delivery within three miles. Delivery fees apply thereafter based on mileage.
Why do other people charge more for weddings?
I don't know! Kaela's Kakes doesn't base your quote on the type of event it's for! I think that is just a silly concept!
Where do you bake?
